ENBE was formed in 2004 in response to a need for expert advisory services in shoreline engineering, science and management. This demand continues to grow, fuelled by the ever-increasing challenge to:
- Protect coastal infrastructure.
- Expand existing or develop new ports and harbours.
- Develop coastal energy projects including renewable energy.
- Safeguard the coastal environment and marine ecosystems.
We specialise in the complex interaction between the sea and the human environment. We provide a bridge between engineering technology and environment science. Working closely with our clients, we provide expert advice and quality design services.
A private limited company, ENBE’s main operating office is in Peterborough, UK. Our work and clients may be located throughout the UK and overseas.
Substantially our work is carried out in house by specialists in coastal, fluvial and marine science and engineering:
Dr Noel Beech BSc PhD CEng MICE – Director
Noel worked with a large international consultancy and three major maritime contractors prior to forming ENBE, therefore gaining wide ranging experience in his chosen field of expertise, coastal engineering. A recognised specialist in both the science and engineering of coastal projects, Noel is often engaged to provide expert opinion on cases featuring these disciplines – this has included projects from the Far East to South America as well as some of the largest UK coast protection schemes in recent years.
Alongside this he provides project management services for coastal consultancy projects both in the UK and internationally. Noel has worked in over 25 countries and is able to bring a wealth and breadth of experience to each and every project.
Noel Beech leads on the international sector projects and expert review work carried out by the firm.
Alex Schofield MEng CEng MICE – Director
Alex has over fifteen years experience in flood and coastal erosion risk management, principally in the UK for the Environment Agency, coastal local authorities and private clients. Her experience covers high level strategic studies to detailed design and site supervision within the coastal, estuarine and fluvial environments.
Alex is highly experienced in stakeholder engagement, assisting each client to develop and deliver their projects with the support of those who have interests in the scheme or site location. In 2014 Alex joined ENBE where she applies her coastal management expertise as part of the firm’s team of shoreline specialists.
Alex Schofield leads on the UK sector of work as well as providing technical expertise in the appraisal and delivery of coastal solutions from concept through to construction.
Dr Kate Steenhauer BSc MSc PhD CEng MIMarEST – Principal Engineer
Dr Kate Steenhauer is an experienced coastal engineer, with over twelve years’ experience. Kate’s project work includes studies concerning wave modelling; beach response under wave action; condition and adaptability of coastal defences; assessment of morphological change and sea level rise; design of rock structures; economic assessment of coastal works; and wave overtopping.
Kate Steenhauer leads on coastal processes and hydraulic structure interaction.
MarineSpace – Marine planning and environmental consultants
ENBE is supported by MarineSpace in providing specialist environmental services to complement technical studies, planning applications and consents for construction works. MarineSpace was formed in 2006, and currently has offices in Southampton, Peterborough and Pembroke Dock. The MarineSpace team has extensive experience in providing support to clients aiming to develop projects in the marine environment. Their principal aim is to facilitate clients’ developments whilst ensuring that the sensitivities of the marine environment are properly considered.
